Description

Lauffersweiler Synagogue: Laufersweiler, Germany. Built 1911. Interior destroyed Kristallnacht, 1938.

Though small, the Laufersweiler Jewish community had its own mikveh, cemetery, charitable society and women’s association, and a school for religious studies – whose teacher also performed the duties of chazzan and shochet.  Most Jews left Laufersweiler before 1940.

In 1942, seven were deported to the East and 10 to Theresienstadt. At least 37 Laufersweiler Jews perished in the Shoah.
