Noble Laureate (Mr. Singer & His Demons)
Professor Miriam and Avi Hoffman Programs
Isaac Bashevis Singer has always been a very controversial figure in the world of Yiddish/Jewish literature. His embrace of the Kabbalah and the supernatural elements of his work, give an added dimension to his characters and his depictions of the sometimes sordid realities of life. In this play, which incorporates Bashevis’ actual personal diary entries as well as his family memoirs and his fictional characters, we imagine what it was like for Isaac Bashevis Singer as he faced the final journey to his beloved afterlife.
